Actually the new manufacture Michelin X Redlines use modern rubber compounds.
You can tell the difference by the X on the sidewall. The old ones do not
have an X and are rock hard. The new ones are much better and don't even
require tubes.
I have scared a few guys on the Autocross course with the new ones and
actually have a few 2nd pace awards. Always losing to guys running oversize
205's
or something in stock class. Yes, you are right they scream especially on
wire wheels. I would not say that Redlines are the tire of choice for autocross
but they are stock to the TR250 & TR6. On my modified cars I run Yoko's.
On the road, driving at legal limits I find the ride to be fine. Of course I
have never run anything but Redlines for 18 years now so I don't have much to
compare them with. I have so many because I take them off after so long
because I don't trust a 10 year old tire.
I would never run the G-800's or trunk tires. Those are for someone's museum
car.
