Correct, the SU's have no accelerator pump.  The Dashpots are 
supposed to give an accelerator pump type of effect by slowing the 
rise of the pistons upon acceleration causing a momentary rich 
condition.  It all requires airflow.  Sticking your hands over the 
air intake on the SU while cranking the motor will pull extra fuel 
into the engine, though.
