Approx touring kit dimensions were 2'6" long, 10" front to back and about 7"
high. They were made of heavy duty waxed cardboard and the ends were
protected by a thin gauge ribbing of perforated steel strip that rusted as
you looked at it. They were rented less a handling charge if returned to the
dealer unopened. However, if they had been opened and even if the item(s)
had been replaced - no refund. This was made very clear at the time of
'purchase.' You'd bought it and for the simple reason that once the metal
strapping had been cut, it couldn't be replaced and was from then onwards
regarded as potentially containing 'non-genuine' parts - or as they were
called in the day - 'spares.' Never trust a member of the general public to
be as honest as you claim yourself to be :)
