 The "WE" prefix indicates that the box -- or at least the case -- originat=
ed in a Dolomite 1850HL, which should have ratios similar, if not identical=
, to those of the GT6.

I will be working on adding adding an overdrive to my 1968 GT6 Mark 1=20
transmission. In looking over some things, it appears that I have a=20
transmission number that shouldn't exist. The number is WE 12870 as can=20
be seen in the attached picture.=C2=A0 From the outside it looks like what =
I=20
expect a GT6 transmission to look like.=C2=A0 The previous owner did tell m=
e=20
he had the transmission rebuilt not terribly ong before I bought it.

 From what I can tell GT6 transmissions should start with KC or KD.=C2=A0 A=
=20
Vitesse box it would be HB or HC. (based on this=20
site:http://www.wolfitt.com/numbers_and_ratios.htm).=C2=A0 I don't know wha=
t=20
other car it could come from.

Were there separate numbers for rebuilt or replacement transmissions?

Thanks,
Roger Elliott
