There is a world of differance between cheap racing and historic/vintage
racing. Reading this thread I become more and more grateful for the situation
in the UK.
The VSCC has been discussed already. We also have the 750 Motor Club
'Dedicated to low cost motor sport' who run championships for just about any
readily available car. They run formula Vs, road going hatchbacks, kit-cars,
and various production engined 'prototype' or 'clubmans' cars. If you want to
borrow mum's car and have a go or fancy yourself as the next Frank Williams
they have a place for you. No need to hack a fine old classic car apart or
over develop an historic racing machine - just go down the scrapper or to the
auction or buy a kit car.
In the uk we have no need to recreate the 60's and 70's as the same spirit is
still alive based on the cheaply available cars and components of today.
