   Dear PreWarriors,

SAFETY OFFICIALS TO CHANGE AIRBAG RULES -- Federal safety regulators
will allow motorists to disconnect their cars air bags and will take
steps to permit auto makers to design new air bags that inflate with
less force, industry government sources said. The safety officials
also will announce tougher warning labels about the explosive force of
air bags, today's L.A. Times reported.

I read this on some other list, devoted to Lotus I think. Personally I was
just wowed by the ingenuity of these car engineers these days. I mean we
think we have problems getting a period grommet to go between our frilly
sumps thingies but hell just imagine what fun motorists interested in period
cars of the 1990s will have in 20 years hence when they try to authentically
restore their machines. I find it somewhat ironic that the cars won't be
genuinely authentic unless they can replace the plastic bag in the steering
wheel.

Of course there's also the problem that when they 1990s period cars gather
together in 20 or 30 years time for a club meeting, their owners failing
eyesight will probably led to hours of argument when they can't tell which
car is which...
