Boy, where to start? I guess the first thing to point out is that my viewpoint
will be based on criteria different than that of the other 450 folks on this
list. Sure, it would be *great* if I could amble into my office on Monday
morning, plop down in the chair, mug of buzz-bean juice in hand, and simply
say "Computer, show me mail of interest."

It doesn't work that way, not yet.

The way it DOES work is that the roughly 3 dozen email lists run from here have,
at the moment, 1,019 error messages, roughly 6.5 megabytes, that need my
attention. People have the notion that "Hey, this is the Internet, there's no
need to be an intelligent, considerate human being!"

So chumps like me end up wading through tons of droppings that the Clueless
Mouse Pilots (C.M.P.) have left behind, in their quest to be cute, funny,
obnoxious or whatever. There are some rudimentary filters in place to keep
out those who want to dump a multi-meg image in your inbox, in a format you
may not even recognize, or who spend zero time and intelligence trimming down
the material they quote from a previous meesage, or think that everyone on the
planet has the same hardware and software they do and really wants to see the
latest cool attachment they came up with. Mail from non-members, those who
tack on those stupid Microsoft addendums, or send out messages with HTML
formatting have to wait until I get around to dealing with this sort of cruft
before their words of, uh, wisdom, make it to the list. And a lot of them end
up getting tossed in the bit bucket rather than having the drivel from some
C.M.P. inflicted upon the innocent members of the mailing list.

And yes, the vintage-race list is a nice, quiet, low-volume list compared to
some of the really active ones. Count your blessings.
