Historics histrionics over? Monterey Historics founder Steve Earle reports
"very positive" progress in talks with all parties involved in his contract
negotiations with Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca.
Earle met Oct. 18 with Kathy Hayworth, president of SCRAMP (the volunteer
organization that runs the raceway), and John Stornetta, general manager of
Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca.
"I am hopeful that within a couple of weeks to have negotiations complete,"
says Earle.
Earle said he wanted to clear the air with SCRAMP and its volunteers. "My
concern was that they felt as though we were attacking their efforts, which
of course we weren't. Hell, we've worked together for 28 years and they have
done a great job."
If negotiations are successful and the Monterey Historics continue next year
at Laguna Seca, the honored marque will be Corvette, which will use the
event as a springboard for its 50th anniversary campaign.
"Then," Earle says, "I will have some reason to run my'59."
