I had a similar violation a few years ago. Allstate covered the loss, though
the shop was 35 miles from the house. Few parts were stolen, but my
recollection is they covered those as well.
I did not know off-premises coverage included the shop until I inquired 3
days afterward, figuring it wouldn't hurt to ask. I was greatly cheered by
the answer, and went on a tool-buying binge the following week :)
I also bought a Radio Shack 2-zone alarm system for $150, with a motion
sensor and a couple door switches, plus a Size Large siren. The pre-alarm
goes off when you open the door, and it's intentionally loud enough so the
neighbors and passersby can hear it. That and a couple of stickers
(included) have so far served to ward off evil.
Also added a dead bolt, and talked to the neighbors about the alarm. My
phone number is on the door in large print.
