I had the same issue last month. Found that the wire from the main terminal of the alternator had corroded in the connector causing an open circuit. I cut off small section of corroded wire and resoldered terminal. Problem solved.

Bad battery? When your alternator keeps trying to charge it could be because the battery is not accepting a charge. Get one of those small battery/alternator testers that has 6 lights that show your batterie's state of charge with the engine off and the alternator output with the engine on.

  Hello folks,
I have a 74 TR6. I noticed the other day my charging light came on and my gauge was showing about 11 volts when running. I removed my alternator and had it tested. The tester at Autozone said it was bad (although the kid seemed to have no idea what he was doing). Anyway I ordered a new alternator and installed it today and am having the same issues. Any trouble shooing suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Robert
