Heaters

Once removed and disassembled (neither of which I've done yet) is it
possible to repair the core of a heater if it leaks, or is replacement the
only course of action?  I discovered quite by accident that in spite of the
heat produced by my Healey, the hose from the engine doesn't even connect to
the heater through the firewall, but makes a u-turn and runs back to the
engine.  Why you ask? Could it be the heater core leaks????????????
