GOOD WORK HALUK, THE CALIPERS ON OUR CARS ARE OFTEN OVERLOOKED, AND THE SOURCE
OF SEVERAL PROBLEMS: EXCESSIVE ROTOR HEAT AND WARPING, EXCESSIVE PAD
TEMPERATURES, BRAKES THAT LOCK UP OR WON`T RELEASE UNTIL COOL DOWN, AND BRAKE
NOISE!
RECENTLY I HAD A HEALEY IN THE SHOP WITH BRAKE NOISE COMPLAINTS, AND UPON
TEARDOWN , FOUND EXCESSIVE MOISTURE CORROSION AND PITTING IN THE CALIPER
PISTONS, CAUSING ERRATIC BRAKE OPERATION.
THE SURPRISE WAS, THIS CAR HAD STAINLESS STEEL PISTONS , AND HAS USED SILICONE
BRAKE FLUID FOR YEARS!!
THE TRUTH ABOUT SILICONE FLUID IS, IT STILL ALLOWS MOISTURE TO ENTER THE
SYSTEM AND GATHER AT THE LOWEST POINTS, CREATING CORROSION. SILICONE FLUID
DOES NOT CHEMICALLY MIX WITH WATER, IT KEEPS IT SEPARATE, BUT IT`S STILL IN
THERE, AND BEING HEAVIER, WATER SEEKS THE LOW SPOTS, LIKE WHEEL CYLINDERS AND
CALIPERS, WHERE PERIODS OF INACTIVITY FOR OUR CARS CREATES THE BREEDING GROUND
FOR SLUDGE, AND ACID CORROSION, ENOUGH TO ETCH A S/S PISTON!
SILICONE FLUID SYSTEMS STILL MUST BE FLUSHED TO CLEAN OUT THE WATER AND ANY
CORROSION EVERY 2 YEARS AT THE MOST!
IT DOESN`T HAVE TO BE A TOTAL FLUSH EACH TIME, A THOROUGH BLEEDING SEQUENCE
WILL WORK, WITH A TOAL FLUSH EVERY 6 YEARS.
THE CALIPER KITS THAT MOSS HAS RIGHT NOW ARE SUB-STANDARD. GIRLING/LOCKHEED NO
LONGER ARE AVAILABLE, AND THE NO-NAME SOURCE FOR MOSS HAS VERY "FUZZY" EDGE
CUTS, NOT CLEAN AND SQUARE. THEY ONLY HAVE ONE CHOICE RIGHT NOW, AND ARE
WORKING ON IT.
PBR/REPCO STILL HAS THEM, AT THE EXPECTED QUALITY!
VERY HIGH MARKS TO MOSS FOR THEIR NEW CERAMIC BRAKE PADS, OUTSTANDING
RESULTS!
