[Roadsters] Alternative to Bimetallic Strip Gauge Regulator?

Lets cut to the chase...all this being said...will the Moss Motors solid state gauge voltage regulator WORK in our Datsuns??

It is not only a LOWER voltage as mentioned, it is a PULSED voltage.
If you monitor a working VR, you will see a square wave output which averages ~8VDC.
Like ashtrays on a motorbike, I have no idea why this system was adopted:-(
BTW, resistors drop voltage sure but they are rated in OHMS.
