[Roadsters] Heat Sender & Fuel Level Sender/Dash Indicators

For the temp gauge, the most likely culprit is an inadequate ground for the
sending unit. The original design used a staple in the gasket between the
thermostat housing and the head to provide the ground, but a lot of people
don't know that, so they use a gasket with no staple. Also, too much gasket
sealer on that gasket can kill the ground.

The quick fix is to attach a wire to the sending unit using a hose clamp and
run the wire to the block or some other good ground. If the gauge starts
working, you've found the problem.

I don't know where it came from, but I have a non-emission control
thermostat housing unit that has a blind threaded hole opposite the temp
sending unit. I found a fine-thread machine screw that fit, so I used that
to attach a ground wire.

For the fuel gauge, pull the sending unit out of the tank and look at it.
The float arm moves a flat tab across a coil of wire. It's basically a
rheostat that varies the current based on the position of the float arm.
Over time, the tab wears down the wire in the coil and either fails to make
contact or the turns of the coil contact each other so the resistance never
changes. If it's the "no contact" problem, bending the tab so it makes
better contact will probably fix it. Check with an ohmmeter.

If the sending unit isn't the problem, then check the wiring harness for
good connections.

Subject: [Roadsters] Heat Sender & Fuel Level Sender/Dash Indicators

Ref: 1969 Datsun 2000 Roadster, Excellent condition except following.
Working to correct:
Know this deal? Indicator won't move! Fuel indicator needle floats to full
or empty!!

Friend Gary removed 43 yr old Guage Voltage Regulator which is located under
dash. Cleaned, polished and checked. Replaced with no change. I order new
regulator from Rallye, replaced old unit with new unit. No heat indicator
response nor fuel indicator response (fuel indicator continue to float)
What is plan B?

The initials "IGN" appears on regulator where black wire with white stripes
connects. Any suggestions or ideas?
Grateful for help!
