You might want to pull the plugs and check them. If you have one or more
really bad guides those plugs are going to be really black and sooty.

Subject: [Fot] TR6 oil consumption issue during break in.

Hello group, Once again I cry out for help with the latest mind boggling
TR6
issue. In short I just rebuilt the engine and I've got the engine down to
using just 1 quart of oil for every 60 miles travelled.

The details:

I did the best work within my current skill set during assembly. Staggered
the rings etc......

Did my 20 minute run in at 2000 rpm. Huge Oil pressure, put in an old reief
spring to get it off the peg on the gauge now about 75 lbs on the raod 50 at
idle.

I bought the cheapest pistons I could find on ebay....... I think they were
the "county" brand.

A friend took my yellow fan for his TVR and gave me his red 13 blade fan.

Car runs pretty well, performs within reason.

The car runs cool. Never much above 160

I have put 4-500 miles on it and it smokes when shifiting and pulling away
from lights especially when you rev it after it has been idling a bit
waiting
in line to get in the car show.

Yesterday I blocked 1/2 the radiator with cardboard and drove about 20 miles
home all up hill. On arrival home the car was idling at 195, but still
liked
to smoke.

I am going to continue to drive it and hope the problem magically goes away
as
I'd rather buy oil than pull the engine apart at this point.

Please chime in if you have any great ideas or know that mystery oil or
dupming Ajax in the engine will solve the problem.

Cheers, Henry Morrison, Albuquerque, NM
