[Fot] distributors (2nd part)

You are very right about the 45D race adapted distributors as sold by Moss
and others : the quality is not been improved over standard 45D distributors
and the maximum advanced is the same from say 4000 rpm on. This is not to
have critics on Moss, it's their business and often we are happy to buy
parts from them. But for racing, it's wiser to pay more for a quality part.

I believe the competition distributor sold by Moss and others may be based
on a 45D, but they claim the advance curve is altered for racing.
I once asked for specifics on the advance curve. Everyone talks about
advance curves, but just try to find out what it is. About the only way I've
found is to measure it yourself. I would think that most would max out by
4,000 RPM, so for road racing the advance curve is irrelevant. A spark that
jumps around probably has more to do with vibrations in the camshaft and
distributor shaft.
