[Fot] distributors (2nd part)

Hi Dick,
I've been a fan of you since I've read(more than once) the article about
you in one of the books of Kas Kastner.
About the unsupported section of the cam shaft where the driving gear for
the distributor/oil pump is located : this area is supported in my engine by
2 1800 bearings. The camshaft cannot flex anymore. It was an awful lot of
trying. These bearings get oil by drillings from the main oil gallery.
I run this engine with the bearings since 2 years now without any problem
(7000 rpm max). Kas Kastner has pictures of this modification and is very
enthousiast about it. And I'm proud of it. I can send you pictures as an
attachment of an email
Marcel

Marcel,

The cam is likely flexing causing the erratic timing at higher rpms. The
gear is in an unsupported section where a bearing should be and the cams
flex and break at this location. Cutting down the base circle for more lobe
lift makes it worst.

Yesterday I swapped for an identical Mallory distributor, with cap and leads
and no play in the shaft bearing. Also tried a new coil and ran the engine
without alternator : no improvement at all. So I'm looking for another type
of distributor. Any other suggestions to improve the timing?
