Nothing really new under the sun.



In the 30s there was an aircraft engine built here in the US that was an axial
piston layout affair.

One is on display in the National Museum of The United States Air Force in
Dayton OH.



The main differences I see with the Duke are of course the utilization of
computer engine management, and it's cylinder head design.
