I really wanted to be there somewhere in front too, but because of an
accident in the rolling start of the 1st Zandvoort race, I have to bring my
TR3 to the Triumph graveyard, after 12 years of racing it.
In that start, someone didn't look in his mirrors, moved at once to the left
and pushed me at the right rear fender, sending me in a spin that ended
against the concrete wall. I took an MGA with me and when I came to an halt,
my car was hit by 1 or 2 other cars. It was a real battle field with sorts
of smoke and cars pointing in all directions : 10 cars were involved of wich
4 cars have to be rebuilt because of bent chassis and/or suspensions. My car
has the worst damage : the chassis legs are knicked in several places, the
front is shorted by half a meter, 3 wheels are bent, almost all body panels
are damaged. It's really sad to look at. Thankfully no one was wounded.
That means, this race season is about over for me, after the very good 1st
week-end at Hockenheim.
At 62, I had thoughts to make an end to the racing. These thoughts were
short lived though, I'm hoping to get a car ready before the end of the 2014
season.
