If it has standard barely-synchro'd 4-speed Moss box gearbox, surely 
that had to slow down the Morgan slightly. At least by CVAR's rules, the 
Plus 8 wouldn't be allowed to use overdrive.  But if Chris' engine has 
only 2.2 liters it's clearly holding its own against the Morgan's 3.5 
liters, particularly since the Morgan probably has the weight advantage 
(a stock pre-1972 Morgan Plus 8 weighs 1950 lbs). The Morgan Plus 8s 
were not as successful in racing as the TR-engined Plus 4s mainly 
because the restricted ports can only be worked so far.
