Last weekend we spent some time on the business side of the British car world. We went to the annual British Motor Trade Association (BMTA) conference in Kansas City.

Our host was Victoria British Ltd. (www.victoriabritish.com) The prodigious facilities were outstanding to tour in awe, the staff was so pleasantly edifying and welcoming, and the event was well planned, thought out, and executed. The conference had very knowledgeable speakers in their respective fields including representatives from McPherson College's Automotive Restoration Program (www.mcpherson.edu/autorestoration), Hagerty Classic Car Insurance/Grassroots Marketing (www.hagerty.com), Prather Performance Racing Engines (www.pratherracing.com), Newton Commercial Classic Car Interiors (http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk), as well as representatives covering social media and photography from our host at Victoria British/Long Motor Company.

It wasn't all about business, although the attendees conduct business at every waking moment, believe me. The efficacious men and women of the British Car World got to relax and socialize, but more importantly got to play a little too.

We toured the Armacost Museum, a private collection of beautiful cars of yesterday including Cadillac, Rolls Royce, Kaiser, and many Studebakers, among others. They did have some beautiful British cars as well including MG and Sunbeam.

Each day worked up an appetite that was quickly stifled by some authentic KC Barbeque at Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ one night as well as the buffet at the Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway to send us all home with full bellies.

A very special thanks to the InterContinental Hotel for use of their rooftop conference room for the first day and the Overland Park Marriott for being the secondary host hotel.

I would strongly recommend becoming part of the BMTA if you are a restoration shop, parts manufacturer, or media/marketing company. It was such a pleasure to share the weekend with business owners from Alexander Racing Enterprises (www.the-vintage-racer.com), Niehaus Restoration Products (www.niehausrestoration.com), C&C Specialty Products (clarkandclarkinc.com), Moss Motors (www.mossmotors.com)' British Parts NW (www.bpnorthwest.com), among many other shops, manufacturers, and parts suppliers alike. I would call it a great resource for a plethora of knowledge and experience and an extraordinary network of like-minded friends with the British car in common.

A very big thank you to Becky Hanrahan and staff for welcoming us into their breathtaking facilities and making us feel right at home! A very well organized and enjoyable event!!! Next time I come to Victoria British, I will have my Spitfire...
