If you want a good bolt that you don't have to ever worry about then go here:
http://www.coastfab.com
The AN or NAS bolts are used in the aviation industry, each one is inspected and top quality. The best feature is that the shank (portion under the head that is not threaded) is available in any length in increments of .063" (1/16"). You never have the threads in shear. The AN washers are available in .063" and .032" thickness and there are nyloc nuts and mechanical lock nuts.
They are more expensive but no better quality available. You can buy 1 bolt or quantity.
The web site explains in detail. Good folks to deal with.

Is a grade 8 bolt a good idea where it will be stressed with all the up and down motion with the vertical link? Too brittle? Usually I go for grade 8 whenever possible but I’ve heard there are instances where it might not be the best solution.

So they got cards from their students thanking them for teaching. Kind of a different twist but a good one I thought.
