Hi Nick, just wondering if the problem could be downstream from the clutch.
Could something be resisting turning until there's full engagement? Jack up
the car and move all the drive line components by hand, see if everything
is smooth, no binding.

I was sure I had a clutch problem until the broken tooth in the diff
finally made itself abundantly clear, just before the rest of the drive
train sheared off at speed.
