No Kas, I'm well aware of it. Without you, I would have been sort of desperate, thanks to you I know how to proceed out of my bad times, racingwise, of the past 2 years!

You forgot who talked you into this decision.

Never be beaten by equipment.

Making a car faster and better is also part of the game. I'm surely not a slow driver but admittedly not the fastest. I was 50 yrs old when I started doing some car competition and I never took race driving lessons, because I thought almost nobody did that and because as amateurs I also thought it was not completely righteous. I think otherwise now about the driving lessons. But like everyone who does compete in whatever sport, I want to win (win races or classes or overtake the car in front..). Winning feels good. For me,to win, I need a car that is in good shape and just a little bit faster than the opponent cars. Knowing that my car is a bit faster makes my driving much better. When my car is not in good shape, I wait for the finish and I drive slower than I should. This approach has worked very well for me. I was 2 times overall championship winner of the german Triumph Competition and British HTGT with also 8 overall race wins. In the last 2 years I've been rather slow, and with 68 yrs I wonder if it is the age, but so far I refuse to believe that, so I'm taking some race driving lessons with an instructor who is also going to drive my car in the next race season. We will share my car : each of us will do one race in a week-end so we can compare our laptimes. If I stay a lot slower than my instructor, I'll know it is time for me to stop road racing. Investing in the car or in the driver? Investing in more horsepower or in better handling or braking? This is a wrong idea : it is not about or/or/or... but about and/and/and.

Hi Chuck,

not sure was a shark has to do with billiard.

I’m more about effort.

Minimum effort with maximum result – the same I do for business, making the dreams of architects becoming true, with a minimum of effort.

Saving resources and money.

On racing I try to bring in, what makes the car fast:

    * Good handling
    * Good braking

Engine power is not on my focus. The engine needs to last. I try to keep the revs at low as I can < 6100 rpm on the TR4.

And I changed the TR8 current engine configuration to work best between 3-6000 rpm.

Both cars are basically the same config.

Many people invest much money in their car. I invest money in the driver. Taking lessons, buying books about driving.

In my opinion this is giving better results than trying to squeeze 10 hp more out of an engine.

The most joy for me is to treat racing like a chess play. You have about 30-40 cars on the track.

Some of them you can use for getting faster others hinder you and then there is the car in front you want to overtake.

That is the greatest fun of all. Playing games. Presenting yourself in mirrors, confuse them with false attacks and stuff.

I’m not after winning, I’m going for a good fight and don’t care much about final outcome. The fight is the thing for me.

Cheers

Chris
