Hi Rick.

Going to try a set of time Hoosiers again next time I purchase tires which is soon. I have used them in the past. Good chance my driving style has something to contribute, which I am working on. The Hoosiers seemed to fade half way through a session and the adhesion confidence dropped after six or seven sessions. Budget vs performance plays a role also. I am testing at Wild Horse in Phoenix in a few weeks. Always open to improving those lap times. Lastly, having grass to run off on sounds wonderful as opposed to the ruts, gravel and dust storm produced here in the desert.

 Cheers.

When I was racing in the 50's I loved the bias tires . You could change the diameter with pressure changes and really make fine adjustments to handling while the Michilins (only radials at the time) were slugs and though great grip when you finally got the pressure right, but I always thought a quick trip to slow lap times..

Never be beaten by equipment.

  Hi Stephen,
You just described a radial tire perfectly, no warning. The bias ply tires do give some notice before heading for the grass.

I run the 195/60/13 Toyo R888's, DOT rated. They are well treaded and directional. The tread is deep enough to run light rain, and seem to hold up well through 8-12 sessions depending on your driving style. They seem to come to temperature quickly and are pretty consistent through out the session. The only down side for myself is they don't seem to give a lot of warning when they are going to disengage. Could also be driver error with too much throttle exiting corners.

Not good news.

I didn't know that they stop production.

Cheers

I've run treaded 400 wear rated DOT Tires in my GT6 and did fine and had fun. I agree something like tires shouldn't make or break it. Drive accordingly and Just get out and enjoy.

? Interesting, VARA is involved with an SVRA event in February here. They agreed to allow VARA members to run what tires they brung.

Not sure about any reclassification based on tire choice.

I'm no expert but it seems the tire choices in 13" and 15" are becoming pretty limited for our cars.

A touch more compromise given declining entries may be good for all vintage organizations...

FOT faithful.

After way too much discussion, SVRA and the Kastner Cup Committee have come to a resolution that will allow the Hoosier R7 tires to be used at the Mid-Ohio event.

If you choose to use Hoosier R7 tires your car will run in group 12 in the weekends normal race groups and depending on you preparation level it will be 12a or 12b.

12a is on track with group 6. https://svra.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Svra_Group_6-new-classes.pdf

12b is on track with group 8. https://svra.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Svra_Group_8_1.19.pdf

All TR's will race in the K Cup feature race together.

This will provide everybody a competitive place to play all weekend and also allow everybody to run in the Kastner Cup on Sunday. SVRA has worked with us to proved a resolution to a difficult situation. Lets put this to bed.

Thanks,

Marty Sukey
