I started racing at age 40, about the time I had to give up on playing
basketball and softball due to accumulated injuries. I hadn't had a
physical in many years, just surgical patch jobs on a couple of joints.
These days licensing requires an annual physical and EKG and I have no
complaints. Racing changed my life for the better in a lot of ways and
watching my health is one of them.

After that first physical they put me on a statin drug for high Cholesterol
and later high blood pressure medicine. I did not like being on a statin so
I changed my diet, started taking an herbal supplement and got my
cholesterol under control to get off the drug. Due to family history of
heart issues I still have to take HBP medicine. I started cycling about 10
years later and fixed both.

There is a book out there called "Younger Next Year". I highly
recommend it.
