[Healeys] Advice and guidance needed for OD reinstallation

The first paragraph in this attachment describes lining up the sun wheel, planet carrier and roller clutch using the tool that Michel mentioned. You can also use a screwdriver as described in the workshop manual. In my experience it is extremely difficult to keep everything aligned when trying to mate the OD to the transmission with it in the car. Any slight movement of the driving flange, the part that bolts to the drive shaft, misaligns the internal components such that the third motion shaft cannot complete enter the OD.

Len, as regards your request for advice on remounting the overdrive - I would echo the advice from two prior posters: remove the gearbox, secure it on the bench input shaft down and install the OD there.

You'll thank them later...

Hi. All

I finally figured out how to get the OD out of my BJ7. Now for getting the new one installed. I found two rings sitting on the output shaft which I believe are fitted to the adapter plate. (See pics attached). The problem is going to be how to keep them in place while maneuvering the new OD into place. I was thinking of using either white lithium grease or wheel bearing grease.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
