[Healeys] Smitty kit

I had the Smitty kit, now sold by Pete Delaney, in two of my previous Healeys. The W58 was the one to use, a nicer, shorter throw, more precise trans overall compared with the T5 kit sold by The Driven Man. Trouble is, the W58s are getting hard to find, especially in good condition. The Smitty kit comes sans trans, leaving you to source one and overhaul it as needed, while the T5 kit includes a new transmission, which really isn’t bad and is certainly quite strong. Plus, adding up all the costs for parts and trans and any rebuilding needed brings the Smitty kit closer in price to the Driven man’s.

Which transmission do you have Ira?
The Toyota W-58 was the most popular, and on it the transmission drive gear is available in a range of ratios (due to the fact that trans was used in a variety of vehicles).
This can be a useful addition, especially since a Healey with a 5-speed likely also has tires different from the stock, and often a changed rear end ratio, too.
That drive gear was pretty inexpensive last time I looked.________________

There is a shop near me who can rebuild my angle drive so my speedo is correct for the tires on my car. I need to find my notes. I used a Speedo app to help calibrate the drive

That .73 gear is essential, and after a couple of miserable weeks with the .63 gear, I told them so. They were extremely gracious in getting me the .73 replacement and a local transmission shop made the swap. Sorry to hear there’s a wait for that gear now, but obviously others came to the same conclusion that the .63 is way too steep for the Healey. Some simple math would have saved me some trouble: fifth gear ratio x rear end ratio for the ultimate, final drive, and it’s obvious that .73 is about all you want with the 3.91 rear and even the 4.10 on the 100/6. And I think even the .73 would be too much with a 3.54 rear; there should be a .88 or so gear for the Tremec T5, which I’d pick that that rear.

The tremec conversion is supposed to be nice, but one of the guys has been waiting for months for them to get that particular gear.
I've lost track of whether they finally got a batch.

Try The Driven Man in Cooksville TN. They make kits for Healey Sixes and Jags using a brand new Tremec T5. Just be sure and order the .73 fifth gear ratio as the standard .63 is way too steep. Trust me on this!

Aren't they're people that sell the conversion kit for this setup?  If you can find out who does that they might be able to help.
