[Healeys] Smitty kit

Hi Michael:

What you say about identifying a W58 by its steel sandwich plate is
correct, but unfortunately a little incomplete.

It turns out Toyota produced a number of W58 variants with differing
gear ratios, but did not put the identifier on the gearbox. Instead, it
was on a tag on the car or truck! Unfortunately, most people didn't
realize this when pulling transmissions out of vehicles, so it's not
clear on inspection which particular gearbox one has.

Luckily, the gear ratios are not that hard to measure by turning the
input shaft and measuring the outputs of the various gears...

As such, someone thinking about grabbing a W58 gearbox would be well
advised to know what gear ratio set they want [or, are willing to
accept] and check the subject donor trans before committing to it.
