Bob: you have obviously never been to Port Angeles. No, we don't plan to =
send someone to P.A. I really don't see either a need to do so, or any =
point in it. The people coming from Port Angeles will have had some sort =
of dinner or social event in Seattle, I assume, to end that sector. If =
the Washington coordinator is continuing the tour beyond his sector, =
then the "hand over" can be done here in Victoria. These are details we =
can work out, but unlike the Vancouver stop, Port Angeles is just a blip =
on the road. (Apologies to any Port Angelinos out there.).

I guess I always pictured that the handoff would be an event where =
both Sectors attend - sort of a "Good-Bye" from one Sector and a =
"Welcome" to the next. Was your thought that you would have no-one =
representing your Sector in Port Angeles? Anyone have any other =
thoughts out there one way or 'tother ?

Seattle "hand off". Assuming that people can find there way on to the =
ferry in Port Angeles (child's play) and are capable of not falling =
overboard on the way to Canada, we can just take over as they get off =
the ferry in Victoria.

I think I have the route it fixed now. Keep in mind that if I could =
turn off the directions and times at this point I would, as there are =
WAY to specific for our planning at this point - I have also assumed =
driving speeds slower than one might typically see to allow for a 20 =
minute stop every 3 hours driving time. I.e. instead of 60mph, I've =
used 54 mph on the highways.
Regarding the handoff from Seattle (Jamie), I think it is scheduled =
for Port Angeles rather than Victoria itself as you suggest (if I =
remember correctly), so you would pick up the Tour there the evening =
before or at breakfast. If I am wrong, and the handoff is in Victoria, =
please let me know and I'll adjust things. (Looking at the itinerary =
I'd better fix that up --- too many things to adjust !)
Can you get them to hold off on widening the Sea-to_Sky highway =
until after the Tour? ;o) That is one that is definitely a "must =
drive" in my humble opinion.

Cancel my previous comments; I found Victoria/Vancouver, but the box =
for this segment should be in the previous segment, not in the =
Vancouver-onwards segment.
While we have tine to make these sorts of corrections, here is =
one now, and this is a good indication of why we MUST vet these maps. =
The instructions given for leaving Victoria are simply wrong. On Day 11, =
the instructions say to take Fort Street, then turn RIGHT on the =
Trans-Canada Highway (Douglas Street). Fort Street is a one way street =
going East. You must turn LEFT on Douglas Street if you want to get out =
of the city. Can you correct this?
The other thing is that the maps and schedules assume a more or =
less non-stop progress; this is not how people will travel. In Victoria, =
we will find some way of greeting the ferry (May 16 or later, depending =
on the previous schedules) from the US and giving the travellers =
information about the city, where to stay, eat, what to see, etc. There =
is lots to do on the Island, from whale watching to visiting vineyards, =
and people will have no trouble filling up a few days. This may well =
serve as a "flex time" to allow people to catch up if they have been =
delayed or taken more time in previous segments.
The map assumes that the travellers will go from Victoria, up =
Vancouver Island, north to Nanaimo, then across on the ferry to =
Horseshoe Bay, north of Vancouver, (this is a beautiful trip) and then =
on up to Whistler. Some, many, in fact, will decide to proceed directly =
into Vancouver at this point. The Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler, =
gorgeous as it is, will be under construction in preparation for the =
winter Olympics to be held there. The extent of the construction will =
not be known for a while, but we will be able to provide an update. Most =
(myself included) won't want their Jaguars subjected to gravel and the =
inevitable delays. But the important thing is that travellers be in =
Vancouver of the Friday night (May 21) in preparation for the Van Dusen =
All British Show the next morning. The cars go on the field by 9:30 and =
leave around 4 PM. It is not to be missed if you love beautiful cars, in =
a beautiful setting. There will be a dinner that night, and the next =
morning (Sunday) we head off to parts east. The "hand off" will, I think =
be done at the dinner. =20

I've updated the route maps and introductory webpages for each =
sector from Orlando through to Winnipeg. The routes are as I understand =
them as of today (SC's, please let me know if I've screwed up =
somewhere). Comments appreciated.
