Daniel Thompson here, SC for the Montreal, Quebec leg (yes Bob, I'm =
still
alive!). The amount of emails this project is generating is =
unbelievable and
(I hate to say it) the level of complexity threatens to take all the =
fun out
of it. I have simply not had time to follow the emails for the last six
months, so I'm sure I've missed a ton of important discussions. The way
things are going I will not have time to properly manage this project =
going
forward (work is just too much burden right now) so I've signed up a =
new SC
and ASC to take over. I may become an assistant-assistant SC.

What I've seen in the last few emails I've read is this:=20

-     you have to "sign up" for this tour now. It's no longer informal.
-     You have to pay to sign up for this tour, it's no longer "a la =
carte".
-     The SC's will have to chase after people to pay (what happens if =
you
don't pay but just get in your car and follow the tour through your =
local
sector, do we call the cops and have you arrested?)

I was under the impression that this was a very low key, grassroots, =
loosely
organized idea for a "tour" that would use a website for planning and =
was
really all about having fun and doing a little driving. Kinda like a =
"let's
meet at the burger joint and go for a spin", but longer. The idea of =
SC's
was to "suggest" a route, hotels and sightseeing. Now I see $5,000 =
deposits,
fees/late fees, packages and complexity. What happened?

Like Gregory and a few others, I think it is going to be very difficult =
for
me (or my replacement) to convince local club members and Jag owners to
spend CDN$58 to drive ON THEIR OWN LOCAL ROADS. I agree with Gregory, I
would not have gotten involved at the beginning if I knew we would get =
to
this level of administrative complexity.=20

Anyway, I know most of the people involved in the setting up of this =
project
and have great respect for their enthusiasm and abilities. So I'm =
pretty
sure they'll be able to pull something off of value. But I think we've
wandered pretty far away from the original premise.

I second what Dave has said, judging from the (little) interest we have =

able to generate, despite our best efforts. I am really having trouble =
with
the administrative complications of fees. I doubt that many SC=B4s =
would have
agreed to do what they are doing if the present (planned) fee, fee
collection, package distribution arrangement were known ahead of time. =
As a
SC, I want to have fun too! The way it is set up, I will be spending a =
good
deal of time on administration. Obviously, at this late date, I will
continue as planned. But I still have trouble with the whole issue of =
fees.
Is it just my age that makes me seem cranky about this? For the record, =

dislike being negative about anything, so even having to express these =

strong reservations makes me uncomfortable.
