I received some advice today regarding something we have been discussing on
this list over the last little while; that being the concept of
incorporating JONAT as a non-profit. Much of the discussion came from the
budget, and the estimated $ we had put on the cost of incorporation.
Tony Koschinsky, lawyer and Series III XJ6 Jaguar owner (also owns a lovely
TR-6 but that's another story), suggested that rather than incorporate, if
we organize ourselves as an association, we are better off. We would have
to have bylaws and such, and the participants would not be participants, but
rather members. I asked Tony to put together some draft bylaws for us to
look at, and he should have them for us next week.
Please keep in mind that Tony can speak only to Canadian law, so if there
are US lawyers among our esteemed group of SC's and ASC's, perhaps they
could provide us with a US perspective.
The advice was so good (i.e. less costs to the Tour) and his advice has been
free, that I have asked Tony to help out at the EC level. I have also
subscribed Tony to this list.
