Your points are well taken, but I see it a bit differently. If you suggest in writing that people can use a Brand X, a certain number will do so (and the idea of keeping them at the front or rear of any queue is a bit optimistic). The use of a non-Jaguar should be an extraordinary thing, not something "written into" our plans. If people NEED to use a Brand X, they will, without any encouragement from our side.

...And my thought was that as long as they owned a Jaguar they could join us, but the Jaguars get to travel together in a pack and the non-Jags had to lead, follow, or get out of the way.
So, I think it's almost unanimous that it should be restricted to Jaguar owners, the question is how much leeway to grant owners who won't be driving their cars. As I said earlier, I don't thing the non-Jag driving owners will be that interested in joining us for that many sectors, so I think their numbers will be small compared to Jaguar-driving owners. But, as owners, I think they'll have something in common with us and will be valuable additions.
Another factor to consider is that we aren't going to be able to prove any of this anyway. The guy's decades old resto project could be something that he intended to have done, and he worked up to the last minute and just didn't quite make it. What are we going to do, make them send us pictures?
I think we should make a statement on the entry form and website that we would hope entrants would participate in their Jaguar, but if circumstances prevent that, they can apply for inclusion in another car. We make them write up a short essay on what they own, why they aren't driving it, and what they will be driving. Then we can review them and accept or reject.
Mark

OK ... I've run away and come back now that the heat has died down ... if I follow the gist of this thread (with a little bit of biased personal interpretation) ... the majority thinking is "Jaguar Enthusiasts" driving preferably their Jaguars, but alternatively whatever they want (such as a MGB-uar or Jeep-uar). Am I on track here, or should I run away again ...
