I thought it was July 4, so I was totally off.

Media is one of those things that would best be handled by a dedicated
person. I don't know if we has such a person in our midst, but I know
that as the SC, I was way too busy organizing the route and informing
the local club to deal with media. The fact that it didn't run through
our club's home base of Phoenix made it less newsworthy. In fact, we
didn't drive through anyplace that anyone would have taken note, from
Mesa Verde to Williams where we joined up with the Fun Run. They got a
lot of publicity along the route, so our participation would have been
more of a footnote. Our handoff at Lake Havasu City would have been the
one place where our presence would have elicited some media coverage.

If we have a media savvy person in our midst, he or she could come up
with a boilerplate press release that could be adapted to each city we
pass through. A media person would have or know how to get a list of all
the newspapers and editors from the big cities to the small towns.

Sending it out would be much like what Bob did everyday of the tour,
except that it would be a few days to a couple weeks in advance
depending on the town and the paper.

Folks....I hope someone has contacted the media about the final leg
finishing tonight in Orlando----that would certainly be worth some good
coverage and be a very excellent ending to the international
circumnavigation.....even if it is just one car with its cousin, Jay.
The media coverage as a whole has been very spotty to non-existent from
my estimation...which is a shame given the amount of time, energy and
cost that has been expended.

I think all the articles from the media should be scanned in and posted
on the website from people who have alerted the media along the way and
saved the articles.  Bruce Mate has sent me a nice article from Newport,
Oregon, from the local paper, which I would be happy to submit.  I'm
sure others might have some from local newspapers as well.

I want to know what kind of ending this will be....any celebration at
all?  I have heard not a word.  And some people will be surprised to
know it is ending on July 6th instead of the 10th -- which the media
might also be planning on.......
