[Mg-mmm] Interior For J2 Info Needed

What Chris said, but a couple of clarifications:

1) The pockets on my J2 are as close as possible to the original. Mine were
taken from both the pattern in the George Jarrard book and some in the UK.
(I restored the J2 while in England). The MG octagon rubber pattern pieces
are set BEHIND trim vinyl which is glued to the inner metal skin of the
door. Quite a job to form the vinyl and still maintain the logo pattern.
Takes some good upholstery glue and a spoon to press the vinyl into the logo
pattern rubber.

2) The early J2s didn't, to the best of my knowledge, use the tach reduction
box, so Gary if you look at mine, you'll see how I routed the tach cable.

3) From the cars I've seen, the carpets are flat to the floor and trimmed in
matching vinyl. Rubber pad sewn in by the driver's heel.

I have sample pieces of leather and vinyl supplied by Mike Collingburn in
all of the standard Triple-M colors, so if anyone locally (Gary) wants to
borrow them to match you're welcome to do so.

Cheers,
Lew Palmer

Gary & Sky,

Having retrimmed both my L2 and J2 ( which have virtually identical
interiors) I should be able to help you out.

The fender piping and the interior piping are all nominally 3/8" in dia.

( but really a bit less, more like .320")

The dash piping and the door top piping should be leather ( runs a bit
thicker at .340") The remaining interior piping and exterior wing piping is
vinyl. ( seat piping is much smaller dia )

I had my seats done by Mike Collingburn in the UK and he does an
absolutely superb job even if he is slow. He can also supply the extra
vinyl and both the leather and vinyl piping all made up. He can also supply

the door checks which should be in trim color as well as the speedo
reduction box cover if required ( used on late J2's with Chronometric
speedo's)

The interior of the door is simply covered in vinyl but don't forget
that rubber MG Crests should be centered in the opening before covering.

I can send you both a tracing of my door panel openings which were
copied off of Larry's Longs original door panels.

I can also supply small samples of red leather & vinyl as obtained from
Mike Collingburn. I still had some surviving red leather on the original L2

seats and it was not "antiqued". Having said that, I"ve seen a super
original PA of Dave Jarvis in the UK and his leather is "antiqued" I think
it looks much more appropriate that a solid red color.

Carpets should be the same color as the interior. I was never able to
come up with a documented original pattern but would love to hear some
details if anyone has a pattern.

Cheers,
Chris Nowlan
