Nick Feakes, who runs the MGCC MMM Register web site recently put the  
following on that site.  I thought it might be useful to folks here. Nick  is 
writing a book on MMM electrics and it should be available soon.

   I am  still working on the book but part of the chapter that covers this 
issue  may appear in the Year book. 
To convert from three brush to two brush  is quite simple (and much easier 
with the dynamo out of the car). 
1.  Remove the third brush completely.
2. Transfer the field wire that was  connected to the third brush screw 
terminal and connect it to the grounded  main brush (this is the one without a 
wire connected to the screw  terminal).
You will now need some sort of voltage  regulator.
