My thoughts

It seems from what I saw, is that most of the French Quarter was high and
dry, but 80% will have to be bulldozed. They finally stated than 80 miles of
the Gulf frontage is totaled, with a depth of up to 1 mile inland. I haven't
heard if the Mobile Bay tunnel is flooded but I think that it would be from
the surge.

Another aspect from it is that not only 2 million people lost: their homes,
apartments, hospitals, schools. They all lost their jobs. There will be 10s
of thousands of demolition and construction jobs, but we talking months and
years just to get the infrastructure back in place, to make it livable. My
suggestion after 9/11 was to bring all of the troops back from where they
are NOT needed, and station them in all of the dormant bases along our
southern border. A wide area of our security has been breached, and we could
use them for civilian safety. The Corp of Engineers are going to be needed
to be the basis of fundamental construction.
