[Shop-talk] Hooking up a trickle charger to a truck with two batteries and a thermoswitch

Ah. 12V system is different. (I heard truck and assumed (I know; I 
know.) 24V, which is all I've experienced in trucks with two batteries.) 
If both batteries are connected together (+ to + and - to -) all the 
time, then a trickle charger only needs to be connected to either 
battery. Both of their + terminals and both of their - terminals are 
equivalent.

The temperature sensor/switch  itself should use only a few watts; it 
could also be just a bimetal snap-switch that draws no power at all. 
When the heater is on, that will consume [perhaps] 1000W, depending on 
the heater. (My Subaru Outback block heater draws 400W for example. I 
would expect a larger engine to be equipped with a larger heater.)
