IME, Black Beauty (coal slag) is cheap but dusty & dirty. I'm not sure how
long lasting it is, either.
I use Aluminum Oxide - great for rust & paint removal. Avoid using on
machined surfaces (a layer or two of duct tape can be used to prevent
harming machined surfaces).
I have also used crushed glass - made from recycled glass. The sharp edges
cut well without being too aggressive.
Do be careful if you spill any glass beads. It will be like walking on
greased ice...
