[Shop-talk] Manual transmission issue???

One of my Austin-Healeys has diff whine since I put in taller gears, and 
it whines on accel or decel, but I'll be damned if I can recall which it 
is offhand. The other possibility is the throw-out bearing, but it would 
likely whine all the time (and eventually fail outright).

None of these would trigger a CEL; what was the cause of that (should be 
on the invoice she got from the shop)?
