I got my car back from Mark last night after he reinstalled the Quaife
and put in a new/used clutch I already had. The car drove home all 250
or so miles just fine with 2 or 3 stops and restarts along the way.
This morning I go to leave for work and the car won't start. The fuel
pump primes and there is fuel in the rail. The engine won't crank
though. I haven't had any hard starting at all. The voltage gauge is
showing 12v and a jump off my moms Volvo and also AAA didn't do
anything. After letting the car sit for a few minutes I might get a
click or 2 out of the starter solenoid but it wouldn't last and it was
very faint. I didn't get the fast rapid clicking and dimming lights
like a dead battery either. Also while holding the key down in the
start position, extra instrument cluster lights come on and the EATC
goes out. All of this is normal, so I assume that the starter is bad
and that power is getting to the solenoid since the lights come on and
the EATC goes out. Is this a correct assumption? I installed another
starter that I had that was good when it came off the car it was in, but
that didn't work either. I did drop it on the ground though when trying
to install it. So now I have a NAPA re-man starter to try tomorrow
morning. Anything else I should look for when putting this in?
Everything else in the car seems to work fine so I don't think it's a
wiring problem to the starter, but I guess it could be a possibility.
Sorry for the long windedness. not looking forward to being out in the
cold again tomorrow morning and missing more work.
