First off, it depends if he was non-exempt (hourly-type worker), or exempt.
If he was non-exempt, the employer can be in a bunch of trouble if your
b-in-l files with (I believe) the NLRB. He could still try that if he was an
exempt employee, but he will probably have to file a civil suit
(small-claims or otherwise) to collect.

Federal labor law is very strong for hourly-type employees. Here's one site

I poked around the State of MI site, but surprisingly found nothing. Here's
a Federal site for the Dept Of Labor that may give you some info if you look

If you can't find anything at the state or Federal level, it might be worth
a couple of bucks to consult with a lawyer.

My brother in law worked for a guy for a few weeks and he refuse to pay him.

believe there is some sort of Federal law/agency that covers it. Anybody

Obviously, the 1st step is that he stopped doing work for him, I just want

help as to what is next (legally).
