I'm confused, Paul. 3 hours for an alternator or 4.5 hours for an SAI pump
is about 3x longer than it takes, which means that the dealer is pocketing
the difference. Sounds very generous to me.

Dealerships have gotten very good at playing the "whipping boy" and the "Woe
is me, the factory is f**ckin' me".......don't believe a damn word of it.
They know the warranty game, they know what they can get paid for, and they
will most certainly play the mfr as the bad boy in these scenarios.

IMHO, if Ford (or GM or DC) could have factory stores, things would be
better. You cut out the middleman.

The whole replacement-part business is another animal. The oddball parts are
carried to cover warranty issues, the "10 year supply" is an urban myth that
has not been true for many years......and I doubt it was EVER true.
Satisfying the customer doesn't mean that every customer is satisfied all of
the time. I'm in the computer services/consulting biz, I know how that
works. We keep the customer satisfied in the global sense.....if I were to
keep every customer satisfied all of the time, we would not make any money.

FWIW, Jac Nasser has become the latest whipping boy for Ford's problems.
Frankly, I don't believe it. He had the Ford family's blessing for a long
time......and you need to remember who it is who REALLY runs Ford Motor
Company. You can own all the stock you want, but the family calls the shots.

The car companies are not that happy with large regional-type dealers, they
have LESS control than they do over small, individual dealers. They have
allowed big regional dealerships because a lot of markets cannot support a
small, individual dealer selling one car marque.

Any company that gives it's dealers 3 hrs time to change the alternator on a
V8 SHO is suspect IMHO. Or how about 4.5 hrs to change out the SAI pump on
a V8 SHO? Ford is all about squeezing the dealers. They use them as a
cushion between the customer and themselves.

When you complain to Ford about the dealers Ford will tell you the dealers
are independent business. Yet if you try to get something resolved that is
clearly the manufactures problem the dealer is left hanging and will more
often than not try to make good.

I have no sympathy for dealers. They are in business at their own choice.
I have seen Ford close up the small dealerships around me. Ford wants to
have the regional stores so they have more control. Do you really think if
Ford controlled the entire structure that things would be cheaper? Or that
parts would be more readily available?

I went to the dealer today looking for a pigtail to go on the IAT sensor on
my V8. Ford does not offer a replacement part. This is a part that is on
how many millions of cars? If you want to get it repaired you go to the
dealer and they will sell you the parts (non-Ford) to repair it. And
offered to do the repair at no cost to me if I brought the OEM plug in.

I personally think that Ford has succumbed to the screw the customer
business practices that just about killed GM in the 70s and now they are
paying the price. Jac the Knife is dead long live the king........
