In the country it may be faster to go to the hospital, but this does not
work in the average city. Ambulances are placed at "strategic" points around
the city, and the distance from them to you is a lot shorter than from you
to the hospital. I used to consider how fast I would drive on the way to the
hospital in an emergency, until I learned that there is an ambulance parked
1/2 mile away. The hospital is 7 miles.
