Anyone running KDWS? I am looking for comments... particularly on ride
quality, compared to Comp T/A VR4's. What size did/are you running? I'm
looking for something a bit more comfortable than the KDW's for winter and
long trips. Not a lot of snow here, but some traction would be a plus. I'm
really looking for a more compliant ride during the cold months. My KDW's seem
to have stiffened up considerably compared to summer temps (40's vs 90's).
I've got my annual 300 mile jaunt coming up in a few weeks, and the wife has
the oven baking again, so I'm hoping the KDWS's will provide a ride similar to
the VR4's I ran this summer.
An interesting observance:
The Comp T/A VR4's I ran this summer match what are now the Comp T/A HR4's. At
one point a few years back, the HR4's had been discontinued after they were
"improved" and re-released under the name VR4. I don't know if the carcass is
the same, but the tread pattern is an exact match. I was considering the "new"
HR4's, thinking that, at worse, they'd have a slightly softer carcass than the
VR4's I ran this year, but it became moot when I realized they are more
expensive than the KDWS's. The bastards jump $40 per tire from 15" to 16".
Then there's the "new" VR4, but it's $17 MORE per tire than the KDWS! Now,
which of these damn tires is supposed to be the highest performer??? (The KDW
line....). BFG seems to be in a price-anomalous situation.
Oh, yeah, which old tire does the "new" KDWS look like? Seems they are at
least using old tread molds, of which I can't complain, because their tires
have always been pretty quiet and decently grippy. I just want to figure out
what in the heck is supposed to be what, now. Can't tell with someone playing
musical molds at the assembly plant!
