I'm curious why you want to check your timing since it isn't adjustable anyway.  Not that I think this is a wast of time though- when my dealer had my car trying to diagnose its problem, before George's revelation of "crank cancer", all they would have had to do was to check timing and it would have immediately pointed out my problem.  They did enough troubleshooting to run up a good diagnosis bill, but they didn't discover the timing problem or any other problem for that matter.  There are easier ways to check for crank cancer though.
