[Shotimes] Minimum rim width for 245/45/17 tire? ('93 SHO)

Wide rims improve turn in, think of a car in steady state (going straight)
when you yank the wheel the rim moves immediately but the tires wants to
continue in the prior path. and the bigger the difference between tire width
and rim with the more slop in the link.

Less slop the better the tire "cuts in" more slop better the ride.

Old rule of thumb was keep the rim from 105%- 80% of section width.

you have a 10" wide tire, 80% is 8" so the minimum rim width is 8.0" which
is the mounting width of the tire beads, actual rim width will be 9.0" wide.

A 10" rim would not be too wide.

Because the widest I could go in a rim with the offset I wanted was 7.5" I
went with 235/45-17. They are a lot lighter than a 8" rim and 245/45-17 tire
combination.

The tire is .5" shorter than my stock size (225/55-16) but about the same
weight. I have to increase inflation 2 psi to keep the same load range.
0-60 is much improved with a shorter lighter tire.

Fact is 245 are NOT needed for traction unless you have a blower or NOS and
they are so heavy they hurt performance in every way including ride.

You may choose to ask Paul Nimz, I know he used them for a long time.
