Yeah, you don't want to keep driving it if that's the problem. High rpm
shifts (or miss-shifts) can cause that. Lots of centrifugal load when it's
spinning real fast. Also powershifting, or real aggressive shifting that
put a lot of fast "shock load" on it.
The rivets that hold the stock straps are sorta weak in that area, and
sheer, the strap swings out and acts like a saw. I broke one on my 92 years
back, beat up the inside of the case, but was lucky it didn't cut into any
"wet" area's of the tranny.
