With my design, it won't crumple down and trap you underneath. Of course,
you could make a few cuts in the steel to make it easily break away if you
wanted.
I've found tires do not stay balanced for long on the Taurus/Sable platform.
Any particular reason for this? Putting in the aluminum subframe bushings
greatly reduced the vibrations, but I still need to get them rebalanced
every other month. I do run through tires faster than most (1-1.5 years at
best), but the same tire on a different car does not pose the same problems.
Both my '93 Sable and the '95 SHO have had the same balance issues. I keep
after the suspension fairly thoroughly. No bad rubber under my cars.
