[Shotimes] Which MAF is best?

Dave, the dragstrip gives you real-world performance numbers, versus the
Dynojet.

"Properly set up", the LPM can work well on modified cars. My stock '89 did
15.3xs at 92. As you observed, my '89 with Tim (and 50K more miles) turned
14.8xs at 96 with the BOS setup (in a heavy headwind).

Trap speed tells the story, the car can run better. Now, IMHO an LPM and MAF
on a basically stock car isn't worth the money. Mallinson's car turned the
same peak HP on the dyno with a Pro-M 77mm MAF and no chip versus my 80mm
MAF and LPM, and we both had the rest of the Bolt-On Stage stuff (y-pipe,
catback, UDPs)

On a Bolt-On Stage car, changing the MAF is the LAST thing I would do, and I
wouldn't do a chip unless I had SERIOUS mods like cams, a turbo, or a
supercharger. I would just get a calibrated Pro-M MAF and forget about any
kind of a chip.

It's really best to use a dyno to quantify these things. There are too many
variables involved in drag racing to use it as a good indicator of
mod-related performance increases. I'm sure you could have left your car
stock and gotten your ETs into the 14.8 range with a little practice,
tweaking and cooler temps. Also, if anything, use MPH as your guide, not
ET. MPH is a much more reliable when it comes to measuring HP.

Another option is to use timed, one gear only runs using a stopwatch, say
from 20 to 70 in second gear. If you do this on the same road in roughly
the same weather, it should be pretty consistent. This is known as the Don
McKinnon method of performance measurement. :)
